Eastward Distraction - Day Six
By Thom | May 29, 2008
Hudson, NY to Milford, PA
We woke up to clear skys and decided that we could hit up a couple National Park stamps as we drove south to I80. Our first stop was the Vanderbilt Estate - wow!! I’m pretty sure that the front entrance is about the same square footage as my boyhood home. We did a mini tour, admired the grounds, and took some quick pictures. I can’t image what the place looked like when the family was still living on the 700 acres.
Our next stop was the Roosevelt National Historic Site and Presidential Library. My father had always wanted to visit a Presidential Library (but he couldn’t come up with a good answer why) and so we got to go about 5ft into F.D.R’s before the security guard told us that we must have tickets to get in. 5ft in is still considered INSIDE the library so we moved on. There was a WWII gathering outside with quite a few old wartime guns, Jeeps, uniforms and so on.
After some more email and an intense session of Chinese food, I decided that my carb tubes simply must be leaking and we needed to wrap them with electrical tape and seal them up with a bicycle inner tube; so we did, in a K-Mart parking lot. True adventure rider style!! They looked nice, but in the end, it wasn’t the carb tubes that were leaking after all, it was a short in my electrical system. I decided to try my hand at sealing the wire and wrapping it in electrical tape to set overnight. Another night bummed and discouraged sleeping in a campground that had around 150 drunk people (as it was Memorial Day), but free wireless!
