Westward Distraction: Day Six

East Glacier, MT to Lola Hot Spring, ID

What a beautiful day, lots of sun and cool temperatures. This was my last day with my father as we traveled to the western side of Glacier N.P. We managed to go right by the wildfires that we saw the previous nights. We also saw all of the huge camps that housed all of the fire fighters that had pallets of stuff sitting out to feed them along with 20 to 30 different vehicles to get them around. Every gas station we stopped at had 10 or 15 guys walking around in blaze green suits.

We ended up stopping at another hot springs for the night and ended up paying for another dip in the hot springs even though we paid for a campsite (you only get free access to the springs if you stay in one of the cabins… grr). I spent some time trying to figure the guy out who worked there. First he had a broken arm, no shirt on, and no shoes, but he was working with a kid that was probably 16. The 16 year-old I presumed was the life guard, even though there was no “guard on duty”?? while he took care of the cash…? It just seemed weird to me, from a business standpoint to have two people working – one without a shirt on?? Well.. w/e, at least the swimming was good.

My father and I went over my bike once more looking for anything out of the ordinary that I could fix while he still had a large tool supply and didn’t find anything. We plotted his route back home and went to bed. I was kind of sad to start things on my own, but that’s what you get when you can only take off so many weeks per year… time for retirement yet pops??
