Westward Distraction: Day Five

8/3: Glacier N.P. – MT
Today we spent the entire day hanging around in Glacier N.P. We drove to the visitors center where we learned that there was a free shuttle service that would take you to the other side of the park. I would highly recommend taking it! It allows you to spend more time looking at the outdoors and enjoying that then worrying about getting run over by an RV (plus it saves on gas!). What we found out was that there was a pilot program at Yellowstone that worked so well that the National Park Service is putting these shuttles in some of the higher traffic parks.

Basically what I took away from it was: the park is huge! It took us nearly 3 and half hours to get to the other side, but the sights were again beautiful. We went from East to West Glacier and stopped to have something to eat at the famous glacier lodge there, I was not impressed with the food, nor the service but at least I didn’t have to pay (thanks dad). We rode back to the top of the pass and took a hike (that was suppose to be short) to see “hidden lake” and ended up seeing some great wildlife along the way. Around 7 we rode one of the last shuttles back down. On our way back we could see how close the fires actually were, which was super eirie, and went to sleep as the wind howled and ash fell from the sky.
