    Westward Distraction: Day One

    By Thom | January 13, 2008

Nice shot eh?Finally the day to leave was upon us. Our scheduled route was from our house in Waseca, to my friend Stacy’s house in Rapid City, SD. It was a hot, long, boring drive across good ol South Dakota with nothing but “XX Miles to Wall Drug” signs to pass the time. We left at 6 a.m. and along the way, hit up the Minute Man Nissle Site, the Badlands, and finally the Rushmore faces. We only got lost once… for about an hour and 15 minutes trying to find Stacy’s house (whom I owe a lot to). We got the 5 star treatment — air conditioning! On the bike, I was pretty good temperature-wise until we stopped for gas and to eat, then I felt the 102 degree heat.

    Today’s Totals:

    Total Milage: 612
Total Time (hours spent on the bike): 10:18
    Avg Speed: 58.5
